Thursday, May 3 family programs classes
10:00–11:00 a.m., or 11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. What’s in the Box? Tracks and Trails. Learn about the untamed landscape and animals of the old Wild West and create a painting inspired by a surprise in the box. A program designed especially for toddlers and their caretakers. Museum family members and parents, free; nonmembers, $4 per participant. Advance registration required.

Thursday, May 3 special events
Overnight Trip to Asheville, North Carolina. We’ll tour the Biltmore Estate’s Festival of Flowers and Biltmore Winery, dine at Bouchon, and Friday morning we’ll check out Asheville’s vibrant art scene. See more details on page 7 or e-mail lauren.land@themorris.org.

Sunday, May 6 special events
Noon–4:00 p.m. Social Canvas Is Back! See what happens when local bands play outside the museum while Augusta artists, inspired by their music, create original work. Join the art-making at creativity stations or just sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds. Acts include Bailey Jerusalem Sounds, Romance Languages, Big Kids Accordion Band, and DJ King Harold. FREE.

Noon–4:00 p.m. Artisan Market. Find unusual handmade pieces from local artisans at the annual Artisan Market. Potters, woodworkers, jewelry designers, and more will be here—a great chance to pick up that one-of-a-kind treasure.

Noon. Films on Friday: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949). After viewing the film, museum director Kevin Grogan leads a discussion. Participants are invited to bring a lunch. FREE.

Friday, May 18 lectures
Noon. Art at Lunch: Window on the West. Arthur J. Phelan, whose collection is featured in the exhibition Window on the West, discusses Western art and the process of collecting. Members, $10; nonmembers, $14. Lunch by Shane’s Rib Shack. Paid reservations due May 16.

Sunday, May 20 performances
2:00 p.m. Music at the Morris: Megan B. Lynch. Fiddler Megan B. Lynch, who frequently tours with country music legends Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan, will be performing with special guest Adam Chowning, the Flat Pick Champion. FREE.

11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Book signing with Gardening Guru James Farmer. James Farmer is BACK! Southern Living contributing editor James Farmer returns to the Morris to sign his two latest books, Porch Living and Sip & Savor: Drinks for Party and Porch, as well as his previous book, A Time to Plant: Southern Style, Garden Living. All three books are for sale in the Morris Museum Store.

Noon. Films on Friday: My Darling Clementine (1946). This John Ford classic, starring Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp, was reportedly based on Earp’s own recollections of his time in Tombstone, Arizona. After viewing the film, museum director Kevin Grogan leads a discussion. Participants are invited to bring a lunch. FREE.

Sunday, June 3 family programs
2:00 p.m. Artrageous! Family Sunday: Drum, Dance, Design. Enjoy a lively concert by ABATSU African drummers and dance group. Afterwards, make a wall medallion inspired by traditional African patterns. FREE.

Sunday, July 8 family programs
Noon–4:00 p.m. Artrageous! Family Sunday: Wild Wild Westival. Grab your hat and boots and bring your cowboys and cowgirls to enjoy a day of Wild West activities. Learn roping tricks, hear cowboy stories and music, sample chuckwagon cuisine, and create down-home crafts during a family celebration of everything Western. Sponsored in part by Augusta’s Kicks 99 WKXC. FREE.

10:00–11:00 a.m. What’s in the Box?: Native American Tales. Learn about the Hopi Indians and weave a Native American handicraft with materials from the box. Museum family members and parents, free; nonmembers, $4 per participant. Registration required.

Jim Dunham, director of special programs at the Booth Western Art Museum, discusses his thirty-year career working in the Western entertainment business, teaching movie stars how to handle guns on the big screen. 2:00 p.m. Artrageous! Family Sunday: Tara Scheyer and the Mudpuppy Band. Dance and sing along to the music of Tara Scheyer and the Mudpuppy Band. Afterwards, make a watercolor painting inspired by one of your favorite songs. FREE.

6:00–8:30 p.m. Exhibition Opening: The Art of Alfred Hutty: From Woodstock to Charleston Sara Arnold, curator of collections at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina, discusses the exhibition. Reception follows. Members, free; nonmembers, $5.00.

Noon. Art at Lunch: Outsider and Artist: Hutty and the Soul of a City. Author and archivist Harlan Greene discusses Alfred Hutty, the artist who made a career of interpreting Charleston and the low country. Members, $10; nonmembers, $14. Lunch by French Market Grille.
