Lecture: Unbroken

Musical writers Michael G. Hennessy and Barbara Jo Franklin present the creative process behind Unbroken, their original musical depicting the personal lives of plantation slaves. Unbroken is part of the Westobou Arts Festival and will be performed at Davidson Fine Arts School on September 25.

Exhibition Symposium: Landscape of Slavery: The Plantation in American Art
10:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
This day-long symposium will focus on an array of topics related to the lives of African-Americans during the time of slavery. The program will begin with a special exhibition tour, followed by a series of lectures and performances on subjects such as the role of slavery in Augusta, the history of spirituals, race relations in Georgia, life at Redcliffe Plantation, and the quilt code myth that stems from tales of the Underground Railroad. The museum hosts an annual luncheon for high school students to learn more about careers in the field of art. The program includes a tour of the museum, lunch with local artists, a keynote speaker, an artist expo, and a portfolio review.
