DOCENT PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES
Become a Docent! 2010 Docent Training: The Morris Museum of Art is accepting applications for its 2010 docent training program and will host an information session for prospective docents at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, in the museum auditorium. The museum is located in downtown Augusta at 1 Tenth Street.
Volunteer docents lead tours, assist with special events, greet museum guests, and participate in continuing education classes. Docent volunteers enjoy meeting students and members of the public and engaging museum visitors in learning experiences through the visual arts.
Docent training is an intensive program designed to provide docent candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to lead interpretive tours. The training is organized into discrete modules incorporated into a thirteen-week course. Trainees are expected to attend all training sessions and complete assigned readings and research assignments.
The 2010 docent-in-training classes will begin on September 14 and continue weekly on Tuesday mornings through December 14. Meetings are held in the museum auditorium and in the permanent collection galleries.
To apply for the 2010 docent training class, please contact David Tucker, Curator of Education at 706-828-3813 or david.tucker@themorris.org or fill out a docent program application and return it to the museum.
The deadline for applications is August 20, 2010, for the 2010 fall training class.
